Dining
As befits any major city, Indianapolis has a wealth of steak, seafood, and ethnic restaurants. Of particular note is Dunaway's, just east of downtown, featuring northern Italian cuisine and rooftop dining in a beautifully restored Art Deco building. Also popular is "6" Restaurant, a multi-dimensional downtown hot spot, featuring appetizers for sharing, over 30 unique martini creations, and nightly music and dancing. The streets of the Broad Ripple neighborhood, north of downtown, are lined with ethnic eateries and small pubs and wine bars. Major upscale chains, such as the steak and seafood emporium, McCormick and Schmidt, are also finding their way to Indianapolis.
Pork ribs and pulled pork sandwiches are an Indiana specialty. Most taverns and corner pubs offer their own special sauce and pork sandwich. Make sure to try this delicious and affordable taste treat at least once during your stay. If you're lucky enough to visit Indianapolis in the summer, don't miss a chance to sample the excellent produce, fresh from the local farmers. Indiana melons are juicy and sweet. The sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, and squash are also delicious.
The early summer berry and fall grape harvests yield surprisingly good wines, particularly berry-flavored wines and off-dry Rieslings. Indianapolis hosts a wine festival each June to showcase the many delicious Indiana wines.
